Good morning, Monmouth County. In case you missed it, a horse made a break for it from Monmouth Park last week and went trotting down Oceanport Ave like it had dinner reservations in Asbury. On the docket:
Horse on the Loose: Hawkstone Takes a Joyride Through Oceanport

Horse on the Loose: Hawkstone Takes a Joyride Through Oceanport
Last week, Monmouth Park had an unexpected dash for freedom. A 3-year-old filly named Hawkstone decided she was done with the track life and took herself on a solo jog through Oceanport. The breakout happened after morning workouts when she slipped away from her handler and made a break for it, galloping down Oceanport Ave with some impressive speed (and zero regard for traffic laws).
Police and track staff teamed up for a gentle takedown, and Hawstone was safely wrangled without injury. She’s back at the barn now, probably grounded, and reportedly doing fine.
Just your typical Shore commute — minus the horse.
Monmouth County Fair: Celebrating 50 Years of Fun and Festivities
The Monmouth County Fair is back at East Freehold Showgrounds from Wednesday, July 23 through Sunday, July 27, celebrating 50 years of good times, great rides, and way too much cotton candy. This year, enjoy classic rides like the Ferris wheel and Sky Flyer (for when you want your stomach to do flips), plus crowd favorites like Mutts Gone Nuts, racing pigs that are faster than your Monday commute, dinosaur encounters (because why not?), and Bwana Jim’s Wildlife Show.
Rock out each night with live music—from Yasgur’s Farm kicking things off to an Elton John tribute that’ll have you singing “Rocket Man” off-key. And yes, there’s fireworks opening night, because nothing says “Welcome to the fair” like exploding lights and sugar highs.
Fair Hours & Admission:
Wed–Fri (July 23–25): 4–11 PM
Sat (July 26): 11 AM–11 PM
Sun (July 27): 11 AM–6 PM
Admission: $10 cash per adult; kids 12 & under get in free (score!)
Haskell Day: Big Hats, Fast Horses, and Trackside Fun Hit Monmouth Park
Monmouth Park is going all out on Saturday, July 19 for Haskell Day, the Jersey Shore’s biggest day in racing. The $1 million NYRA Bets Haskell Invitational Stakes headlines a stacked lineup of top-tier races, and the gates swing open at 9 AM (you’ll want to be early for the free hat, trust us) with the first race starting at 12pm.
It’s not just about the horses—there’s live music from 12-4pm and fashion contests with a $100 Haskell wager up for grabs (so yes, that wild hat in your closet finally has a purpose). Kids are covered too with a free family fun day from 1–5 PM in the picnic area featuring pony rides, face painters, clowns, and general chaos.
Admission is $15, free for kids 12 and under, and parking’s free. Whether you’re betting big or just in it for the clowns and cold drinks, Haskell Day is the kind of chaos we fully support.

Monmouth County Natives: Bringing Radiohead Tribute to Life at Asbury Lanes
Last Saturday, Asbury Lanes came alive with There, There, an NYC-based tribute band delivering Radiohead’s iconic music with precision and passion. With strong local roots, lead vocalist Joe Edelmann was born and raised in Monmouth County, and bassist Jay Lynch also proudly calls the area home. Fans sang along and soaked in the vibrant energy throughout the intimate venue.
The night proved Radiohead’s music isn’t going anywhere—and bands like There, There are doing a great job making sure we don’t have to miss it too much. Be sure to watch Asbury Lanes’ lineup for more exciting shows ahead!
